THE QUEST FOR UNDERSTANDING
The Mereon Matrix is a complex, dynamic geometric system. Its two geospheres, a core and context, interact, the movement of their vertices and edges tracing arcing angles that are shown to tie eleven, spherical trefoil knots. This knot ‘lives’ on the surface of a sphere, and its non-alternating weave was unknown until this geometrical system was mapped. Five knots are defined by the motion of the boundary, six by the core. This System has been rigorously investigated by a scientific team for more than three decades. The team is growing and the research continues.
Our Mission
This grand adventure began in 1987 as a personal quest, and transformed into an international investigation in 1994. In 1997, a transdisciplinary group of scientists took up the challenge to determine if there was a coherent relationship between a Pattern, trefoil knots moving under and over the surface of these embedded geometric spheres. The intent was to determine if this unknown spherical Trefoil knot with it’s non-alternating weave was in fact, the ‘language’ that connected these two spheres.
“The Mereon Matrix: Everything Connected through (K)nothing”, World Scientific Publishing, 2018, makes it clear the answer is “Yes.”
“It is theorised that the interplay of this dynamic framework is universal.
The implications for understanding the interconnectedness life, forms, and systems that display differences is profound. ”
Field Theory
The Mereon Matrix, R. Buckminster Fuller’s Jitterbug
The Mereon Matrix offers an ever-deepening understanding of the behavioural patterns that govern both the physical and metaphysical aspects of reality. The dynamics of both the Context and the Core, reveal the natural sequence of how all the fundamental geometric forms, the Platonic solids and the Kepler semi-regular solids, arise, either as singles or as clusters. The team continues to explore the possible connection between this System and all aspects of physics.
New Discoveries
During Covid lockdown, we expanded our investigation to visualise recursive coherence of the fundamental geometries that ‘belong’ to the Mereon Matrix. Concurrently, we refocused a 20-year quest to establish a connection between this system and the ancient symbol recognized globally as the Flower of Life. The discoveries made were exciting, curious and compelling.
Systemic Coherence was found at every level. The animations below envision what we refer to as a Mereon Cymatic Evolution, MCE. Here you see that while change takes place at different stages of this recursive system, coherence is sustained. The animation on the left shows the 120/180 polyhedron, the system’s aqueous boundary, think ‘bubble’, at its closed and minimal stage. The second video imagines doubling the structure, this, the 2nd MCE.
Understanding the mathematical nature of the Mereon Matrix as pure Golden Ratio—numbers, shapes, layers, and 3D forms— and how it scales to infinity both inside and out, the exquisite and coherent beauty came as no surprise.
Below, we considered the recursive levels of the first Platonic solid, the tetrahedron, and how it fits inside the system. It is important to understand that this is the only form that can cross the boundary when the system opens without breaking it. Ten tetrahedrons are drawn into the system at a time, opposites meeting as pairs that transform into cubes.
The video on the left is the 1st MCE of the Cube, the video on the right showing how coherence appears at the 5th MCE.
The Flower Of Life
During this investigation, we also sought to understand if the Mereon Matrix had a relationship to the patterning known as the Seed and Flower of Life. This journey of circles, spirals, and knots was one Lynnclaire took up when she first encountered this form in 2001. Here sense was finally affirmed when she found the connection between the two. Covid allowed the time needed to focus on exploring this. While the details remain nuanced here, let the visual representations below open your imagination and insights into the intricate relationships between the circles, and how when woven together into a pentagonal pattern, the connection is revealed.
The Artistic Journey
Four Unknown Parabolic Polyhedra
During the 2020 investigation into the connection between the Flower of Life and the Mereon Matrix, we discovered four previously unknown parabolic polyhedrons. All fit inside the 120/180 Polyhedra. The current hypothesis is that these unique forms emerge as the Mereon system ‘breathes’. This investigation continues.
Through her art, Lynnclaire continued her quest to attempt to figure out when and how the Flower of Life’s pattern of Rings lifted into 3 and 4D. Her sense was both the geometry and the knot had to be present.
In 2022, she found them. The tetrahedron and the knot both appear when the 8th circle is added.

Bradford Hansen Smith
It’s been almost 8 years since Lynnclaire and Brad met at a mathematics conference in Hungary! Their reunion continues to be a remarkable convergence of feeling, thinking, and thought.
Drawing and making things is how I have always explored and understood the world around me. I made a living as a sculptor for many years before needing to know more about spatial patterns of movement and how they worked. Buckminster Fuller was my introduction to geometry.
